Better is to improve the gut bacteria quality before pregnancy.

Usually fermented rice is not eaten during pregnancy because modern science shows that the gut bacteria are changed to gain weight during pregnancy.

However, the bacteria in home made Indian Yogurt is good during pregnancy. Do not eat in night time. Morning and lunch time is good.

see the effect of gut bacteria and also about pregnancy news .

Soaking brown rice and making idli/dos does not count as fermented food. Will soaking brown rice overnight and cooking will count as fermented food ?
Soaking is differ from fermentation. Soaking cause germination and helps in easy digestion.

Fermentation is by microbes which digest complex polysaccharides to simple sugars and amino acids and fats and so will help in easy digestion and save our life energy also.

Cooking fermented food will destroy live bacteria. Eating live microbes in fermented foods are even more healthier, because they contribute to good bacteria in our gut.

Remember our human body is only 10% human cells , rest 90% is microbial cells. So eat for feeding the bacteria more than the human cells. "Majority wins and decides"
