Microwave Cooking

       Cooking with microwaves is not good for health. The reason is that it causes a loss of nutrients. A recent scientific study shows the amount of nutrient loss compared to other types of cooking. Steam based cooking followed by pressure cooking  is the best (New Scientist-Microwave cooking zaps nutrients,25 October 2003). One might be eating using vegetables and grains, but the nutrients in them might be destroyed when you warm the food using microwaves or by cooking them in microwaves.

      There is a lot of information about the harmful effects of micro waving food. Following is one such report from another website. Hertel worked as a food scientist (Wattenwil, near Basel in Switzerland) for   several years with a major Swiss food company that does business on a global scale. A few years ago, he was fired from his job for questioning procedures in the processing of food.

      Blood samples were analyzed from volunteers who ate microwave foods.  Changes included a  decrease in hemoglobin values and cholesterol values, especially the HDL (good cholesterol) and LDL (bad cholesterol) values and ratio.  Lymphocytes (white blood cells) showed a more distinct short-term  decrease following the intake of microwave food than after the intake of all the other variants. Each of these indicators point in a direction away from robust health and toward degeneration.  Hertel also found that microwave derived energies may, indeed, be passed  along to man inductively via consumption of microwave food.

    "There is extensive scientific literature concerning the hazardous  effects of direct microwave radiation on living systems," Hertel reported. "It is astonishing, therefore, to realize how little effort  has been made to replace this detrimental technique of microwaves with technology more in accordance with nature."

This research publication shows that boiling milk by  microwave significantly   reduces CLA content and also the milk powder reconstitution also reduces CLA content.  Several studies now show that Conjugated Linolenic acids (CLA)  has many health benefits, most important being an anti-cancer agent.

Lack of Love

Do we Love our Body?
             Once we start to love the body as one loves the self we will have no illness. We deceive ourselves. We get divided. The as the mind and the as the body. This split is the cause of disease. This split hinders healing. Healing is the process to bridge the gap in this split - to unite the body and the mind. We eat unhealthy food. That is due to the split in our spirit. The mind feels happy but not the body. The body growls in pain but the mind enjoys the taste. Here is the split.

         How does this split happen?. What is good is that which is good for both. SPIRIT IS THAT SENSE IN WHICH THE BODY AND THE MIND ARE THE SAME. THERE  IS NO SPLIT. THIS SENSE OF ONENESS IS SPIRITUALITY. When the dual nature of the mind and body are present, separately, there is disease. Both the mind and the body are not at ease. The sense of oneness is absent. If this gap is not taken care of then either the mind or the body divorces the other. Both then start to function as if they are independent of each other.

         Healing is the reunion of the mind and body and the restoration of spirit. When one lacks the union of the mind and the body one lacks spirit. This leads to depression and all the problems and physical symptoms of the illness of the psyche. This split between mind and body leads to the loss of homeostasis which is involved in maintaining the balance of the body. Imagine a family where the mother and father are fighting; imagine the state of the children! We are not talking here about split personality. Here, we mean to talk about the interconnectedness between our body and mind. 

Loving a Car
       If one loves a car, it is not just the love of the exterior alone. One takes care of the interior of the car as well. One will not adulterate or put any impurity in the oil because one knows that would cause serious trouble in the functioning of the car. We take care that there should be no dust in the gasoline, otherwise the carburetor will be blocked and the car will not start. We should have the same attitude in the case of the food we intake. We should take care not to put any junk into our system. All the harmful things we eat block various processes in the body. And give rise to Disease.

       We should maintain our body as we maintain our car. Therefore, regular cleaning of the body should be done like we take our car to the garage for regular servicing.

 Mixture of Foods

 Every human body is unique in its own subtler composition and so is every type of food. Every food has its own set of chemicals, and the concentration of these chemicals would be different from other food sources. One particular nutrient that is abundant in one food would be less in another type of food.

         For example, oranges are rich in Vitamin C but are poor in beta-carotene which is abundant in apricots. Therefore, eating a combination of both the fruits supplies both nutrients. Similarly, eating a variety or mixture of foods supplies all the different types of nutrients (vitamins, minerals, and phyto-chemicals) needed for all the activities of the body.

        This is also the case with one particular phyto-chemical in one food, which has a set of effects in the human body. The food might have other chemicals with another set of effects, which might be undesirable. These effects could be overcome by eating a mixture of foods in which additive effects or neutralizing effects could be brought forth. This is a significant aspect of the pharmaceutical effect.

        For example, green lentils have a cooling and diuretic effect but unsprouted lentils will cause gas formation. Cooking green lentils with garlic and ginger prevents gas formation. The pharmacological actions of the phyto-chemicals in the food are usually mild but effective. This is an added advantage of using food as medicine; it is safe, effective and economical.

The Natural Pharmacy Store 
       Plants are replete with thousands of phyto-chemicals like flavonoids, terpenes, sterols, phytates, etc. Most of these complex nutrients are now known to serve as anti-oxidants. Scientists are slowly discovering many other medical uses of these chemicals. These chemicals are harmless in their natural form and our bodies have become familiar with them. The man-made drugs available today are unnatural to the body and since they are alien in appearance, they give rise to confusion in the body. The confusion is expressed in the form of unpleasant side effects. Phyto-chemicals in foods in their natural form would not have these problems. They enter the system, do their job and quietly leave the body. Consuming a variety of natural foods regularly would ensure constant supply of the natural drugs the body needs.

Polluting The Body

Do you know how much we pollute our body?
      The five elements in food should be supplied in their natural form. They should not be contaminated or polluted. We talk a lot about environmental pollution. But have we ever thought of the pollution in our body? We are concerned about polluting the earth, air and water with harmful chemicals. But think about polluting our body with harmful chemicals we ingest in our body through water and food. Our body is made up of chemicals and all our life processes are due to the interplay or reactions of these chemicals. Good chemicals will react in a good way with our body chemicals; the bad ones will disturb the good reactions in our body and manifest as ailments. Despite the presence of toxic chemicals, the body tries to restore its harmony.

"Dangerous" Soft Drinks?
Carbonated soft drinks have a pH of 4 which is 10 times more potent than the HCl acid that is used for cleaning. We have seen a correlation between people who drink carbonated drinks and pancreas problems.

Do Not Torture Your Body.
        We are sadistic in a way. We torture our body and enjoy the pain. Drinking excessively cold or hot drinks is a form of torture to our body. Can you put your finger in a cold or hot drink bottle for more than 10 seconds? Can you keep your finger in a hot coffee cup for more than 15 seconds? Just think about the torture to the cells of your body which are exposed to the extreme cold and hot through your food and drink habits.

       The tongue deals with all the heat and the cold and reduces it. Still, some of the heat or cold from the drink or food passes into the food pipe and reaches the stomach to spoil the digestive juices. Thus, digestion is impaired. People drinking excessively cold and hot drinks are also prone to constipation and piles.

        When we say body, it includes the inside machinery as well. We beautify only the exterior body appearance; if  someone says I love myself, he means he loves his exterior body. One who loves his body as a whole (internal and external, equally) he is the  healthy one. The love he has will be a sense of gratitude. HE WILL NOT THEN DO ANYTHING THAT WILL HURT HIS BODY (internally or externally).
