“Ibu” (grandmother) Robin Lim is a world-famous midwife, a respected author and a first class poet, whose passion for delivering babies with up-to-the-minute methods while respecting ancient rituals and traditions is perhaps unmatched anywhere. Lim lives in the small village of Nyuh Kuning, near Ubud in Bali, where she and her family settled 15 years ago, after leaving the United States. Lim began to attend home births and hold post-natal clinics at her house. Convinced that her calling lay in being a midwife, as her Filipino grandmother was, Lim returned to the United States to obtain her professional certification. She returned to Bali and demand for her services grew year by year and support team grew as well. In 2004, she and others in the village and surrounding communities formed the Indonesian foundation, Yayasan Bumi Sehat. Robin is the recipient of the (European) 2006 Alexander Langer award for personal service to the world.

PeacefulMidwiferyScholarships.org is a collaborative effort between the Indonesian medical and administrative staff of Yayasan Bumi Sehat and the many volunteers from around the globe who support them on their mission. Everyone is connected around the goal of supporting young women in their journey to become midwives, and on the concept of peaceful medical practices.

Every year, the Sakthi Foundation receives a significant amount of donations which are earmarked for the support of Yayasan Bumi Sehat. This organization is registered as an Indonesian NGO, not as an American one--which gives itthe benefit of greater acceptance and reduced red tape in Indonesia. This also, however, negates the ability of supporters in the U.S. to receive a tax exemption for donations directly to the organization.

It is for this reason that Sakthi, a registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt U.S. organization, is happy to process funds through itself, to Yayasan Bumi Sehat. When you donate in this fashion (and you are located in the U.S.), you will receive an acknowledgment letter which is useful for your own tax records.
