Vedic Tradition - a Spiritual Science

Vedic tradition is a scientific inquiry about the human existence and the mystery ofCosmos:

It is not a religion but a spiritual tradition which means quest of the Spirit or Consciousness. Spirituality is different from Religion. See the difference in the table below.

Religion Science  Vedic Spiritual Tradition

1  Single Founder No known founder, many rational thinkers contribute to the knowledge. No known founder, many rational thinkers contribute to the knowledge. Another characteristic feature is that, may be only in this tradition, both women and men have contributed in the spiritual scriptures, like in Modern Science. Both the word of men and women are considered as divine. Example, there are "30 women (Rishikas)" who have contributed to the verses of Rig veda.
2 Concept of a personal God whose job is  creating universe, controlling everything ,  answering prayers, judging and rewarding their belief giving them heaven or punishing their dis-belief by givign hell to them. No concept of God creating and controlling the Universe.  No concept of Personal God, the Spirit (Consciousness) is only the reality and hence it is called as Spiritual science. It is the Spirit that Manifest as Matter (Energy) and Self creates by Evolution and Self Controlled.  The Words like Gods and Goddesses  in this tradition are only Symbolic images of Cosmic Physical laws and do no refer to a "Personal God"."Ved" means to know or knowledge and hence this spiritual tradition is called as Vedic-Spiritual tradition.  (Detailed explanation given in the next pages).
2 Single Book as source  of knowledge Many books Many books as source of knowledge. THERE  ARE  DIRECT VEDIC AND INDIAN SPIRITUAL LITERATURE  AS SUCH 1280 (One Thousand and two hundred and eighty).  The Four Vedas  are  25 recensions of Rigveda, 100 recensions of yajurveda 1000 recensions of sama veda  and  50 recensions of  atharva veda.  18 brahmanas,  11 aranyakas  108 upanishads, these are the vedas. 18 books each  for of the vedangas : siksha, niruktha vyakarana, chandasastra, kalpasastra and jyothisha- which  are  directly linked with vedic literature.
3 Single contributor Each book is contributed by the work of many scientists.  Many Rishi's (Vedic scientists) contributed to the Vedic Knowledge.  Example, Rig-veda, one of the Chief four Vedas, a single compilation,  is itself composed by more than 210  Rishi's (Ancient Indian Scientists).  None of the Rishi's were known in  the background of caste, because caste is not based by birth but by one's contribution to the society (Reference from Indian Institute of Scientific Heritage).   ).
4 The single book never edited or corrected. Continuously evolving by undergoing  corrections, deletions and modifications Continuously evolving by undergoing  corrections, deletions and modifications
5 No clear cut  classification of various disciplinaries Knowledge is cleary classified into various discplines like Physcial sciences, Chemical sciences, Biological sciences etc There are four Upavedas (up means subsidiary).  Arthved (science of sociology and economics) is related to Rigved; Dhanurved (science of defense and war and the making of its related appliances) is related to Yajurved; Gandharvaved (science of music, both singing and instrumental) is related to Samved; and Ayurved (the medical science) is related to Atharvaved.
6 No freedom to question Questioning is the part of the Science. Inquiry is the chief mode of study or vedas. All Upanishads are all inquiry in the form of questions and answers.
7 No rational thinking allowed Based on experimentation, observation and finally drawing inference. Based on experimentation, observation and finally drawing inference.
8 Based on Emotional belief Based on intellectual thinking Based on intellectual thinking
9 No further evolutionary thinking Evolutionary thinking To evolution is the key aspect.
10 No means of knowing the Truth, other than just believing what is written in the books.  The belief has never stood the test of time.  Any one can Re-Search the findings of the scientist and find self proof with the same tools used by the scientist.  Any one can know the Truth that the Rishi's discovered by applying their techniques like Yoga and Meditation which are wrongly understand as mere health life stlye practices.   These ancient technology has stood the test of time and is eternal till the last days of Human civilization.

Vedic Tradition - a Spiritual Science

There are only a few spiritual traditions that are surviving today. One of the long evolved Spiritual tradition is the Vedic Tradition. The objective of this spiritual tradition is to solve the mystery of the Universe.

The sum total of the inquiry process about our own Consciousness, the spirit,  was passed on to generations after generations is what we call as the Vedic Spiritual Tradition.  It is quite possible that the Vedic Spiritual Tradition started in India and over time has spread to other parts of world. The spiritual tradition in other parts of the world fossilized as religion. This is why we can see that some Spiritual elements are common in all religions which is call as the "Truth".

Even in India, the land of Vedic tradition there are people who have and are mis-practiced VEDIC TRADITION like a religion causing destruction in cultural and spiritual values of the Society. This often comes when individuals or groups use Vedic tradition as an organizational enterprise for their own Selfish needs. However teachers continue to come every time such mishaps happen and they clear the misunderstanding and re-establish the Truth. This is why Vedic tradition has stood the test of time and is eternal like the Truth.

Proof of Vedic Spiritual science tradition:

A spiritual tradition looks only at Truth like any branch of Science. Vedic Tradition is in tune with Modern Science as well as accommodates all religion's spiritual elements.  Vedic spiritual tradition nurtured the growth of all branches of science like Health, astronomy, cosmology, astrology, chemistry, biology, physics, health sciences, psychology and various technologies and also considered the scientists (Rishi's) as divine.

Long before Copernicus  proved to the western world that Earth was revolving around the Sun, the Vedic Scientists has calculated very accurately the planets rotations.

Planet         Period in days for One revolution
  Ancient System Modern values
Earth  365.26868  365.256636
Moon 27.32167 27.32166
Mars 686.99974 686.9797
Jupiter 4332.27217 4332.5887
Saturn 10766.06665 10759.201

This is  a simple proof of its Vedic Spiritual tradition's contribution to Astronomy. (Reference Indian Scientific Heritage, 1999  WWW.IISH.org.

Tolerance: Proof of Vedic tradition's tolerance for other faiths is that only in Vedic tradition (in India) all other religions  thoughts are tolerated. There are several Temples in India that have other religious symbols accepted. There is no other religions in any other country that has symbols of other religions in their places of worship. This shows that in Vedic tradition practices what it preaches.  Other religions talk about Universal God and Love but cannot accommodate Truth from other religions contradicting its own principles.

The intention of this web site is not to put down any religion. Our language style might condemn the organizational flaws both in religion and in Modern science. Vedic tradition represent that "Inquiry" to know the Truth and will not be localized only in India. It is seen everywhere on this planet. The knowledge that sees everything holistic and not in fragments is and helps Man to discover his own inner "Freedom" and be blissful is the fundamental message of Vedic tradition. This method any where in this globe we identify as the Vedic tradition.

In the next pages we will see how the ancient scientists called Rishi's find the Truth. Before that we will discuss briefly the core message of Vedic tradition.

      Science and Religion-2

What is the Core message of Vedas?

The core message of Vedic Tradition is "Freedom", which is applicable in all aspects: freedom to think, question, answer and live and ultimately realize that Consciousness is the fundamental of this Universe and is also our real-nature and not the mere physical body. "Ved" means to Know or Knowledge. Only though knowledge, Man can Self-realize the inner Freedom, the Spirit or Consciousness that is in him is infact the essential nature of this Universe.

The ancient Vedic Scientists who realized this knowledge    are seers  of eternal Truth, who developed methods of inner enquiry into the mystery of the universe equally exact and reliable in practice as the most rigorous scientific study.  They started their search from the simple body and sense organs and journeyed deeper and deeper to the core of the "Being".

Through their ancient Scientific research, the Rishi's developed inner technologies like Yoga and Meditation through which not only physical and mental well being can be achieved but also the cosmic mystery of "Consciousness" can be realized.

Without knowing the fundamental principle of Vedas, the whole Vedic tradition including the rituals, Puranic stories , Symbolism and culture will be totally be mis-understood and ridiculed. This has happened over time, but thanks to teachers (gurus) who impart right knowledge at different time periods whenever the Vedic Knowledge is at the verge of mis-interpretation.

Let us now go to the next page to understand the logical methodology adapted by the Rishi's.
